April 26 - "Be somebody that makes everybody feel like somebody" - Kid President

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

Spring, fingers crossed, is finally here and we are beginning to prepare things for the end of the school year and the transition to a level of learning. Summer is an exciting time for students/families and this summer should not be an exception. However, this summer will be important to foster many of the good habits that the students have learned throughout the year in efforts to prevent summer learning loss. Please, as you begin to plan your summer, remember to schedule some time to keep those minds busy by reading, exploring, and learning in new ways. I am proud of all the hard work that each one of us is putting in...it will pay off!

Keep up the great work and please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything. Our Eagles are strong and will SOAR higher due to our strong partnership!

  • The Livonia Police Department is looking for people that would like to take advantage of the opportunity to have a positive impact on children and their families!

Crossing guards are often the first people that children see (outside of their family members) and, more often, the person that puts a smile on their face that lasts throughout the day!

Please give Officer Rebant, Livonia Police Traffic Bureau, a call at 734-466-2683, if you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity or recommend to someone that would be.

      TIDBITS for Success:

    • Begin to prep your child for school by making sure that routines are established.
      • Bedtime routines (read a book, cut off screen time at least 1 hour prior to bedtime, etc.)
      • Students can begin entering the building at 8:55 am (please do not drop off students any earlier as there will not be any adult supervision prior to that time).
    • How will your child get to and from school?
      • Bus:  get to know the bus letter/number, bus stop, arrival/departure time.
      • Dropping off in a car?
        • Know the traffic pattern and the door that your child will enter through for school.
      • Is your child walking?
        • Know the location and door number that your child will be entering and leaving through.

    SOARing Tips for Parents:

Build routines that help your child understand that they are really in a school day.

    • Use timers that give your child a 10 minute warning that the next session is about to start.

    • Create a quiet learning spot that will help reduce distractions.

    • Talk about the Cleveland Online Learning Expectations as a family and help your child honor them.

    • Help your child attend every learning session on time and ready to learn.

Embrace the struggle that naturally comes with the learning process.

    • Your child is supposed to engage in some type of struggle while learning. It is apart of the learning process.

    • Your child should not need your help during the lesson. We DO NOT expect perfection from our students. We want our students to try their best, ask questions, be problem solvers, and get their work done to the best of their ability. (Not to the best of their parent's ability). When your child makes mistakes and gets questions wrong, our teachers learn more about how to support them. Please allow your child to do their own work and learn how to ask their teacher questions.

    • Students should be sitting at their computer without their parents nearby. When parents are too close, students tend to ask them questions or expect too much support on the work that needs to be done.

    Asynchronous Learning Time

    • Finish the math assignment from each day's lesson

    • 20 minutes of math on iReady

    • 20 minutes of reading on iReady

    • 20 minutes of free choice reading time.

    • Complete one special - Art, LMC, Music, PE.

Support Teachers will be setting up times to meet with your child.

    • Please review your child's calendar every night to see what has been scheduled for the next day.

    • We have MANY support and specials education teachers who are booking lessons with students outside of the three learning times.
