Our Eagles our SOARing above the storm!!!!

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

The end of the calendar year is approaching quickly and I am sure we will all be happy to leave 2020 in our rearview mirror as we move into a promising new year. I am hoping that each our our Eagle families have some time to slow down, unplug, and enjoy the blessing of having each other. I know that we, as a staff, have had plenty of conversations over the past few months about how we are blessed to have the opportunity to serve in a community that is so supportive of their children and school.

Winter Break will be here next week and, as a result, this week has the potential to be a very challenging week in terms of keeping students focused on their schoolwork. Stay strong and keep them focused on finishing this week out just as strong as they started. Remember, keep those cameras on and respond to the teacher when they ask questions....

This break is also a time that you, and your family, can do some activities that sustain the learning over Winter Recess. Get the students off the screens and simply enjoy time learning in other ways. Please consider keeping a routine of reading, writing, and practicing math facts over the break so that their skills are sharp for when we return to learning on January 4. This routine will also help our Eagles transition back to the school and all the routines that come with it.

Keep up the great work as it is allowing our students to soar high above the difficult storm that exists in our world today. Stay awesome and Keep SOARing Eagles!

Please don't hesitate to call or email me or your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Teachers will have materials for the weeks prior to the reentry into school after the Winter Break. The material will be available beginning on Tuesday (1/5/2021) at 8:30 am and run through 6:30 pm (remember, we will be remote learning until January 18, 2021). The material will be located in the secure vestibule inside the main entrance of Cleveland Elementary.

Please adhere to all safety protocols while picking up the material: masks are required to be worn, please do not enter the building if you are experiencing symptoms, have tested positive, or have been in contact with anyone that has tested positive for COVID-19. The material will remain in the secure vestibule; however, it will be important for your child to have the material for upcoming weeks.

Thank you for all the time and collaboration that went into the conference that you had with your child's teacher! We are always looking for ways to improve, so if you could complete the following survey (you will be able to leave your child's teacher a nice little note too): Parent Survey Parent Teacher Conferences

How Eagles SOAR during online learning:

Parent Tips:

Build routines that help your child understand that they are really in a school day.

  • Use timers that give your child a 10 minute warning that the next session is about to start.

  • Create a quiet learning spot that will help reduce distractions.

  • Talk about the Cleveland Online Learning Expectations as a family and help your child honor them.

  • Help your child attend every learning session on time and ready to learn.

Embrace the struggle that naturally comes with the learning process.

  • Your child is supposed to engage in some type of struggle while learning. It is apart of the learning process.

  • Your child should not need your help during the lesson. We DO NOT expect perfection from our students. We want our students to try their best, ask questions, be problem solvers, and get their work done to the best of their ability. (Not to the best of their parent's ability). When your child makes mistakes and gets questions wrong, our teachers learn more about how to support them. Please allow your child to do their own work and learn how to ask their teacher questions.

  • Students should be sitting at their computer without their parents nearby. When parents are too close, students tend to ask them questions or expect too much support on the work that needs to be done.

Asynchronous Learning Time

  • Finish the math assignment from each day's lesson

  • 20 minutes of math on iReady

  • 20 minutes of reading on iReady

  • 20 minutes of free choice reading time.

  • Complete one special - Art, LMC, Music, PE.

Support Teachers will be setting up times to meet with your child.

  • Please review your child's calendar every night to see what has been scheduled for the next day.

  • We have MANY support and specials education teachers who are booking lessons with students outside of the three learning times.

Look Who is SOARing!!!

Little Red Riding Hood has found her....bannana?

The Livonia Police Department is looking for people that would like to take advantage of the opportunity to have a positive impact on children and their families!

Crossing guards are often the first people that children see (outside of their family members) and, more often, the person that puts a smile on their face that lasts throughout the day!

Please give Officer Rebant, Livonia Police Traffic Bureau, a call at 734-466-2683, if you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity or recommend to someone that would be.
