November 20 - "Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work." - C.S. Lewis

Our Eagles our SOARing above the storm!!!!

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:

The Cleveland Elementary community is one that is strong and continues to show that it's number one priority is it's children. The grit that we all have shown since we made the shift to the virtual world had been nothing short of amazing. We are so appreciative of all the hard work that each family member has done to support our Eagles during this time. So, whether you are part of the Livonia Virtual Program or Face-2-Face/Remote learning, the work that you are putting in is paying off. The desire to succeed, determination to not give up, and the dedication to do whatever it takes for our children is something that we truly value as a part of this community.

Please take some time to recharge the batteries over the Thanksgiving break (maybe watch the Lions win...ok, or just watch the game)! We are truly thankful for each of your families and wish everyone a safe break.

Please don't hesitate to call or email me or your child's teacher if you have any questions.

How Eagles SOAR during online learning:

Parent Tips:

Build routines that help your child understand that they are really in a school day.

  • Use timers that give your child a 10 minute warning that the next session is about to start.

  • Create a quiet learning spot that will help reduce distractions.

  • Talk about the Cleveland Online Learning Expectations as a family and help your child honor them.

  • Help your child attend every learning session on time and ready to learn.

Embrace the struggle that naturally comes with the learning process.

  • Your child is supposed to engage in some type of struggle while learning. It is apart of the learning process.

  • Your child should not need your help during the lesson. We DO NOT expect perfection from our students. We want our students to try their best, ask questions, be problem solvers, and get their work done to the best of their ability. (Not to the best of their parent's ability). When your child makes mistakes and gets questions wrong, our teachers learn more about how to support them. Please allow your child to do their own work and learn how to ask their teacher questions.

  • Students should be sitting at their computer without their parents nearby. When parents are too close, students tend to ask them questions or expect too much support on the work that needs to be done.

Asynchronous Learning Time

  • Finish the math assignment from each day's lesson

  • 20 minutes of math on iReady

  • 20 minutes of reading on iReady

  • 20 minutes of free choice reading time.

  • Complete one special - Art, LMC, Music, PE.

Support Teachers will be setting up times to meet with your child.

  • Please review your child's calendar every night to see what has been scheduled for the next day.

  • We have MANY support and specials education teachers who are booking lessons with students outside of the three learning times.

Where can I access more resources?

Other Notes:

  • The End of the Trimester will be December 4. Please don't hesitate to reach out to the classroom teacher to find out areas that you could be supporting your Eagle at home.
    • Please remember the IReady Instructional lessons that the students should be completing at home for Face-2-Face and Virtual Students

The Livonia Police Department is looking for people that would like to take advantage of the opportunity to have a positive impact on children and their families!

Crossing guards are often the first people that children see (outside of their family members) and, more often, the person that puts a smile on their face that lasts throughout the day!

Please give Officer Rebant, Livonia Police Traffic Bureau, a call at 734-466-2683, if you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity or recommend to someone that would be.
