The Eagles are SOARing high!!!!

A Note From Mr. Witherspoon:
I hope that each of you had a chance to get outside and enjoy some of the wonderful Michigan weather this weekend! This week it looks as though Fall will be returning and, as much I like the different events that the season has to offer, I really like the warmer weather.

Last night, the Livonia Public Schools Board of Education approved a Return to Learn Plan that was presented to them last week by Superintendent Andrea Oquist and her Cabinet members. The plan is to begin welcoming students back into the building on October 5, 2020. The reentry plan is a gradual addition of one grade level per day as the week progresses:
  • Monday, October 5
    • Kindergarten will begin in person learning
    • 1st - 4th Grade will continue to learn remotely
  • Tuesday, October 6
    • Kindergarten will continue in-person learning
    • 1st Grade will begin in-person learning
    • 2nd - 4th Grade will continue to learn remotely
  • Wednesday, October 7
    • Kindergarten & 1st Grade will continue in-person learning
    • 2nd Grade will begin in-person learning
    • 3rd - 4th Grade will continue to learn remotely

    • Kindergarten,1st Grade, & 2nd Grade will continue in-person learning

    • 4th Grade will continue to learn remotely
  • Friday, October 9
    • 4th Grade will begin in-person learning
    • ALL GRADE LEVELS WILL BE IN-PERSON LEARNING!!!! 😀

The Cleveland staff has spent the last few weeks looking at the return of students and I feel as though we have a pretty solid plan for when the time comes to welcome our Eagles back into the nest. However, we are going to need the strength of our partnership more now than we ever had before. We are depending on your assistance, as we move forward into this new beginning, to closely monitor your children for any signs of the virus and/or illness.

The acronym W.I.N. ("What I Need" or "What's Important Now") at Cleveland over the course of the past couple years as we address individual needs. I will, for our purposes, utilize a W.I.N. section for parents to access as a guide this week.

Parents:
  • All Learning (Remote and Livonia Virtual) that takes place this Friday, October 2 will be asynchronous.
  • Begin to prep your child for school by making sure that routines are established.
    • Bedtime routines (read a book, cut off screen time at least 1 hour prior to bedtime, etc.)
    • Students can begin entering the building at 8:55 am (please do not drop off students any earlier as there will not be any adult supervision prior to that time).
  • Remember, masks are not optional. Please have your child wear their mask (covering nose and mouth) throughout the day to build up their stamina.
  • How will your child get to and from school?
    • Bus:  get to know the bus letter/number, bus stop, arrival/departure time.
    • Dropping off in a car?
      • Know the traffic pattern and the door that your child will enter through for school.
    • Is your child walking?
      • Know the location and door number that your child will be entering and leaving through.
  • Keep checking for email updates throughout the week....

Stay healthy and, as always, Keep SOARing Eagles!!!

Please, as always, give me a call or email if you have any questions/concerns/compliments regarding Cleveland!!!!

  • The students, grades 1-4, will continue to take a Reading and Math Diagnostic test. Please remember that this test is computer-adaptive and will adjust the difficulty of questions based on previous answers.  Please continue to support and not assist during this assessment.
  • Please look for emails throughout the week regarding the Return to Learn Plan.
  • Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit organization that feeds school children in the United States who currently are fed during the week on the federally funded Free and Reduced Meal Program and are at risk of going hungry on the weekends. How Eagles SOAR during online learning:

Meeting this Wednesday, September 30, at 6 pm on the Upper Elementary Blacktop.  Please bring a lawn chair as this meeting will be outside and appropriately physically distanced.

The Livonia Police Department is looking for people that would like to take advantage of the opportunity to have a positive impact on children and their families!

Crossing guards are often the first people that children see (outside of their family members) and, more often, the person that puts a smile on their face that lasts throughout the day!

Please give Officer Rebant, Livonia Police Traffic Bureau, a call at 734-466-2683, if you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity or recommend to someone that would be.
